Who We Are

At Outside Insights Group, we offer a practical mix of experience—legal, operational, and business. Our founder, David Blake, is a former federal and state prosecutor, business manager, general counsel, and entrepreneur. After nearly two decades in high-level legal and management roles, he decided to return to the outdoors, working full-time as a big-game hunting guide. While guiding, he also earned an MBA. Dave has guided hunts in CO, NM, TX, and LA, managed luxury hunting camps, and handled day- to-day outfitting operations.

We’ve packed elk out of deep canyons and cleaned the skinning shed. We’ve negotiated land-use agreements and dealt with feuding neighbors. We’ve managed guide schedules, resolved last-minute client issues, and resolved complaints both online and face to face. We understand the everyday realities of your business and know how legal or regulatory missteps—large or small—can cause serious problems.

We built Outside Insights Group to bring a professional skill set to landowners, outfitters, and outdoor business operators who want to run tighter, safer, and more profitable operations.

 Our primary clients are outfitters and outdoor businesses that ask us to identify inefficiencies in logistics, operations, and staffing. The reality of outfitting is that it’s seasonal—months of intense, long days followed by slower periods filled with tedious tasks like phone calls, follow-ups, and conventions. We can step in during either phase. Our work often includes reviewing the client experience, guide quality of life, and regulatory compliance, while also offering support in marketing, client development, and digital outreach.

 We also help landowners, investors and high-net-worth individual clients assess operational efficiency, conservation and land management alignment, transparency in partnership arrangements, and profit- sharing structures. We offer audits and assessments that highlight legal risks, financial inefficiencies, and gaps in client care.
